Let me share one of my favorite ways to spend a day in Lima — a day that flows naturally through some of the city’s best neighborhoods, incredible flavors, ocean views, and creative corners.
The best part?
You can do most of it walking or by bike, which makes the experience even better.
So here it is.
How I’d spend a day in Lima.
First things first: coffee

I always believe the best way to start exploring a city is with a good coffee.
And Miraflores — where this day begins — has some fantastic cafés where you can ease into the morning before the adventure starts.
Find a cozy table, take your time, and enjoy a slow start before heading out.
Some great spots nearby include:
- Mó.Café Balboa
- Cafecito Here
- Savannah Café
- CoffeBrix
Trust me… a good coffee always makes the day better.
Time for ocean views

Once you’re ready, head toward the Malecón of Miraflores, one of the most beautiful places to walk in the city.
Start at Parque del Amor, where colorful mosaics and sweeping Pacific views set the tone for the day.
From there, simply follow the path along the cliffs toward the Costa Verde.
You’ll see surfers far below, paragliders floating above, and the vast Pacific stretching out in front of you.
And if you want to make it even better?
Rent one of the public bikes along the Malecón and ride the route instead. The ocean breeze and open views make it one of the most enjoyable rides in the city.
Want to add a little history?

Here’s something many travelers don’t expect.
Right in the middle of Miraflores sits an ancient pyramid that’s more than 1,500 years old.
Huaca Pucllana is a fascinating archaeological site from the pre-Inca Lima culture, and if you enjoy history, it’s absolutely worth a visit.
You can explore the ruins, visit the small museum, and learn about the early civilizations that lived along the Peruvian coast long before the Inca Empire.
Seeing such an ancient place surrounded by modern Lima is pretty remarkable.
Lunch: time to enjoy Lima’s flavors

By now you’ve probably worked up an appetite.
And honestly, there’s no better city in South America for lunch than Lima.
Near the Costa Verde, you’ll find several fantastic restaurants depending on what you’re in the mood for.
Some favorites include:
- La Mar
- Costanera 700
- Astrid y Gastón
Each offers a different take on Peru’s incredible culinary scene.
So take your time, order something delicious, and enjoy the moment.
Next stop: Barranco

After lunch, continue slowly toward Barranco, Lima’s artistic heart.
This neighborhood feels completely different from the rest of the city — colorful streets, art galleries, historic mansions, murals, and creative spaces around almost every corner.
If you enjoy art and culture, a few places are especially worth visiting:
- MAC Lima
- Dédalo Arte y Artesanía
- Museo Pedro de Osma
- Jade Rivera World
Barranco is the kind of place where wandering is part of the experience, so take your time exploring.
Sunset at Puente de los Suspiros

Eventually your walk will bring you to Barranco’s main square and the iconic Puente de los Suspiros.
This historic wooden bridge has become one of the neighborhood’s most beloved landmarks — and for good reason.
Street musicians, little cafés, golden light filling the streets… it’s the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the end of the afternoon.
If you’re there around sunset, stay a while.
It’s one of those simple travel moments you’ll remember.
The cherry on top: dinner

To end the day, Lima’s incredible restaurant scene steps in once again.
Depending on your mood, there are several fantastic places where you can finish the evening:
- Kjolle
- Mérito
- Isolina
- Traga Luz
Each one offers a different experience — from contemporary cuisine to comforting traditional dishes.
But all of them capture what makes Lima such a special food city.
One last thing
Lima often surprises travelers.
What many expect to be a quick stop turns into a city filled with unforgettable flavors, vibrant art, beautiful ocean views, and fascinating history.
And if you follow a day like this…
You’ll see exactly why.
