Huayhuash Trek 5 Days / 4 Nights – A Journey Through Peru’s Most Breathtaking Mountains

Depart early from Huaraz and drive through the scenic Andean highlands, passing traditional villages like Chiquián and Quero. Along the way, take in spectacular views of deep valleys and distant snow-capped peaks. Upon arriving at Mahuay (4,100m), we begin our trek through stunning open landscapes, gradually ascending to our first campsite. The quiet, remote location offers the perfect introduction to the untouched beauty of the Cordillera Huayhuash.

Wake up to fresh mountain air and stunning sunrise views before continuing our trek toward Pariashpampa. We cross rolling hills and follow scenic trails, surrounded by towering peaks and deep valleys. The route offers plenty of opportunities to spot Andean wildlife, including condors and vicuñas. After a steady ascent, we arrive at our picturesque campsite in Pariashpampa (4,300m), where we settle in for the night under a sky full of stars.

Today is one of the most exciting days as we trek over Paso Pashimin (4,750m), one of the highest points of the journey. The climb is rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Huayhuash range, including the imposing peaks of Jirishanca and Rondoy. After taking in the incredible scenery, we descend through dramatic landscapes to Matacancha (4,200m), where we camp for the night near pristine mountain streams.

After breakfast, we begin our ascent to Paso Sambunya (4,750m), another spectacular mountain pass with breathtaking views of the Cordillera Huayhuash. As we descend, the landscape transforms into a paradise of glacial lakes, leading us to the stunning Laguna Jahuacocha (4,050m). This turquoise lake, surrounded by towering peaks and lush meadows, is one of the most picturesque locations on the trek. We set up camp along its shores, enjoying the peaceful ambiance and the reflection of the mountains in the water.

On our final day, we enjoy a relaxing morning at Laguna Jahuacocha, taking in the serene atmosphere before beginning our descent back to the trailhead. The return journey follows a scenic route through the Andean highlands, eventually reaching our transportation back to Huaraz. Along the way, we reflect on the unforgettable adventure through one of the world’s most stunning mountain landscapes.
