12-Day Peru Adventure: From the Amazon to the Andes and Machu Picchu

Your Peruvian adventure begins as you arrive in Lima, the vibrant capital. A private transfer will take you to your hotel, where you can relax and recover from your journey. If time permits, explore Miraflores and Barranco, famous for their ocean views, street art, and top-rated restaurants.

Early in the morning, travel south to Paracas to board a boat tour of the Ballestas Islands, home to sea lions, Humboldt penguins, and thousands of seabirds. Afterward, visit a winery in Ica, where you'll taste Peru’s famous Pisco and wine. End the day with an adrenaline-pumping ride on dune buggies and an optional sandboarding experience in Huacachina’s desert oasis before returning to Lima.

Fly to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to Tambopata National Reserve. Travel by boat to your eco-lodge, where you'll settle into the heart of the Amazon rainforest. In the afternoon, enjoy your first guided jungle walk, learning about the rich biodiversity of the region.

Wake up to the sounds of the jungle and embark on a canoe excursion on Sandoval Lake, where you might spot giant river otters, caimans, and exotic birds. Later, take a canopy walk to observe monkeys and toucans from above. Evening activities include a night walk to discover nocturnal creatures.

Visit the Macaw Clay Lick, where vibrant macaws gather to feed on mineral-rich clay—a spectacular sight! After breakfast, explore deeper into the jungle with a botanical tour to learn about medicinal plants. Fly from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire. Upon arrival, take the rest of the day to acclimate to the altitude (3,400m/11,150ft). You can explore the city at your own pace, visiting San Pedro Market, Plaza de Armas, or Qorikancha (Temple of the Sun).

Explore the Sacred Valley, starting with Pisac’s colorful market and archaeological site. Visit the impressive circular terraces of Moray, believed to have been an Incan agricultural laboratory. Stop at the Maras Salt Mines, a stunning collection of thousands of salt pools, before ending the day in Ollantaytambo, where you'll board a train for your next adventure.
Overnight: Sacred Valley

Begin your two-day Inca Trail trek early in the morning. Start at KM 104 and hike through breathtaking landscapes to the stunning Wiñay Wayna ruins. Arrive at the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) in the afternoon for your first magical view of Machu Picchu. Spend the night in Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu.

Rise early for a guided tour of Machu Picchu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Learn about its history, architecture, and the mysteries that surround this incredible citadel. After exploring, take the Expedition Train back to Ollantaytambo and transfer to Cusco for the night.

Take a scenic drive to Soraypampa, where you’ll begin your hike to Humantay Lake. This turquoise glacial lake, surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks, is one of Peru’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Enjoy stunning views and fresh mountain air before returning to Cusco.

Set out early for the Rainbow Mountain trek, a challenging yet rewarding hike to see the multicolored Vinicunca Mountain, one of Peru’s most famous landscapes. Pass through Andean villages and admire the incredible views before heading back to Cusco.

Spend your final morning exploring Cusco’s historical and cultural gems, including the Sacsayhuamán fortress, Qorikancha, and the Cathedral of Cusco. In the afternoon, transfer to the airport for your flight back home, taking unforgettable memories with you.
