A visual pause
The Abode
A solitary house on a private promontory of Lake Titicaca, forty minutes from Puno and far from any village. That solitude is Titilaka's central asset: the lake — the highest navigable in the world, at 3,800 metres — unfolds in a full three hundred and sixty degrees, and the silence is broad enough to alter the perception of time. Relais & Châteaux. Eighteen rooms, each different, every one facing the water.
The Lake View Suites, set in the corners with two windows opening onto the lake, are the luxury choice; the Deluxe Lake Rooms, in the first line facing sunrise, are equally sought after. The kitchen draws exclusively from the altiplano — trout from the Titicaca, native quinoa, cañihua, Andean lamb — within an all-inclusive proposal that changes daily. The terrace aperitif as the sun falls across the lake is the most photographed — and the least forgettable — moment of the stay.
