The Journey

Day by day

A chronicle of each day — follow the route on the map, uncover the secrets of every destination.

Daily Summary

Day 1

Iquitos, The City Without Roads

The plane descends into a city without roads: Iquitos exists in absolute isolation, surrounded by jungle and river. The heat arrives before the doors open. A private boat waits at the dock to carry you deeper into the Peruvian Amazon. The jungle begins at the very first metre of water.

Insider Secret

We arrive by day to catch the first sunset over the river. No two evenings on the Amazon ever look the same.

Day 2

The Amazon, Before the Heat

At five in the morning, the canoe departs before the jungle fully wakes. The guide paddles in silence. Giant river otters cross the surface, white herons lift from the reeds, morning mist dissolves in the first light. Breakfast waits on your return at the lodge, suspended above the water.

Insider Secret

The departure hour matters more than the destination. The jungle transitioning from night to day is a spectacle that does not repeat.

Day 3

The Caño, Where the River Narrows

The caños are the inner channels of the jungle, too narrow for motorised boats. The canoe moves beneath an arch of roots and lianas. The guide names every sound. Pink river dolphins appear without warning beside the hull. At midday, a hammock strung between two trees and the sound of moving water.

Insider Secret

Pink river dolphins are not reserved, they are found. The key is entering the caños before midday.

Day 4

The Platform, Sky Without a Ceiling

A raised platform in the forest canopy offers views across the treetops from fifteen metres above the ground. Dusk turns the green to copper. The jungle night is not silent: it is an orchestra of thousands of frequencies. The bed sits beneath linen mosquito netting. Equatorial stars resemble nothing you have seen before.

Insider Secret

The platform is the moment our travellers remember most. Jungle darkness without light pollution is absolute.

Day 5

The Village, The Other Side of the River

The boat crosses to the opposite bank. A riverside community receives the visit: the healer shows medicinal plants from the forest, a family teaches the weaving of chambira fibre. This is not a performance: it is the daily life of those who have known this river for generations, better than anyone. Lunch is home cooking.

Insider Secret

We have worked with these communities for years. The visit is coordinated with their leaders, not staged for tourists.

Day 6

Lima, The Bridge Between Two Worlds

The boat returns to the Iquitos dock before dawn. The city still sleeps. The flight takes off above the jungle: green is infinite until the Andes cut it short. Lima receives from the Pacific. The free afternoon at the hotel is for writing, for remembering, for not beginning the next journey yet.

Insider Secret

We always schedule the return flight for the afternoon. The Iquitos morning has its own rhythm of market and water.

Nothing prepared us for the Amazon. Kada Travel's family programme was perfectly calibrated — adventurous enough for the adults, magical for the children. Our daughter still talks about the night walk
