Where to Stay in the Colca Canyon Exclusively
Belmond Las Casitas, Colca Lodge, Aranwa — thermal hotels of the deepest accessible canyon in the world.
By Kada Travel Editorial
The Colca Canyon is 3,270 metres deeper than the Grand Canyon and culturally fifteen hundred years older. The standard tourist route covers it in two days from Arequipa, sleeping in modest hotels in the village of Chivay. This guide proposes the exclusive version: three boutique hotels in the valley, with thermal pools, direct canyon views, and butler service.
Belmond Las Casitas del Colca
The Belmond Las Casitas del Colca, in Yanque fifteen minutes from Chivay, is the valley's flagship hotel. Twenty independent casitas in a restored colonial hacienda, each with private thermal pool (fed by natural spring at 38°C), organic gardens supplying the restaurant, and a butler-per-casita system —the same staff attending throughout the stay.
The masterpiece is isolation. Casitas are separated by gardens and low walls, creating near-total privacy. The hotel's main pool is heated outdoor, with Colca-valley view. The restaurant kitchen uses hacienda produce and from neighbouring Collagua communities (native potatoes, quinoa, grazing alpaca).
Rate: USD 980-1,480 per night, double. The most expensive and most considered Colca hotel. Recommended for honeymoon and anniversary.
Colca Lodge Spa & Hot Springs
The Colca Lodge Spa & Hot Springs, in Coporaque (across the Colca river from Yanque), is the intermediate option with the best natural atmosphere. Forty-five rustic rooms with stone walls and thatched roofs, four natural thermal pools at the river's edge (no chlorine, no chemical treatment, fed directly from the spring), spa with Andean treatments.
Difference from Las Casitas is integration with landscape. Las Casitas is restored hacienda with heated pools; Colca Lodge is mountain lodge with natural pools at the river's edge. For couples valuing natural over refined, the option.
Rate: USD 380-620.
Aranwa Pueblito Encantado del Colca
The Aranwa Pueblito Encantado del Colca, in Sibayo fifteen minutes east of Chivay, is the contemporary option. Thirty-five rooms in modern architecture with local materials (volcanic stone, eucalyptus wood), heated outdoor pool with canyon view, two restaurants, activity programme. Peruvian Aranwa chain, with cordial service.
The Sibayo location is more remote than Yanque or Coporaque (fifteen extra minutes to the condor viewpoint). In exchange, larger rooms and better price-service ratio than the boutique options.
Rate: USD 280-450.
Casa Andina Standard Colca
The Casa Andina Standard Colca in Chivay, though not five-star category, we include as reference for tighter budgets. Fifty-two rooms with correct chain service, central Chivay location (access to La Calera public thermal baths five minutes on foot), restaurant with Arequipa cuisine.
The functional option for the standard traveller. Rate: USD 140-220.
Experience comparison
For honeymoon and absolute privacy: Belmond Las Casitas. The independent casitas with private thermal pool are unique.
For couples valuing natural and the river: Colca Lodge. Natural thermal pools at the Colca's edge are the difference.
For families with reasonable budget: Aranwa Pueblito Encantado. Better price-service ratio.
For tight budget or short stay: Casa Andina Standard Colca.
Colca has Peru's most considered thermal hotels. The combination of natural 38°C pools, view of the world's deepest canyon, and restored-hacienda atmosphere is not reproduced in any other country zone.

What matters beyond price
Altitude: Yanque and Coporaque are between 3,500 and 3,700 metres. Chivay 3,633. Sibayo 3,847. The 200-300 metre difference matters for the more sensitive. We always recommend acclimatising in Arequipa (2,335) before climbing.
Thermal pools: at Belmond Las Casitas they are heated (constant 38°C) and private. At Colca Lodge, untreated natural (38-40°C depending on the spring). At Aranwa, heated outdoor shared. Natural ones have the therapeutic mineral component heated ones do not replicate.
Access to the condor viewpoint: Yanque (Las Casitas) is 25 minutes by car. Coporaque (Colca Lodge) 40 minutes. Sibayo (Aranwa) 50. Chivay (Casa Andina) 50. To reach the viewpoint before the tour buses, the closest hotels are real advantage.
The formula we recommend
For travellers combining Arequipa with Colca: two Arequipa nights (Cirqa or Casa Andina Premium), two Belmond Las Casitas (honeymoon) or Colca Lodge (natural atmosphere) nights. Total four nights in the southern block.
For those combining with Puno and Titicaca: one more Arequipa night on return from Colca before the Juliaca flight. The complete southern Peru formula, with eight to ten total nights.
