What a Bespoke Trip to Peru Means and How It's Designed
The editorial process behind a custom-made itinerary — from the first conversation to final confirmation.
By Kada Travel Editorial
"Bespoke" is a word used frequently and with variable precision in the tourism industry. The original definition comes from English tailoring: suit cut to the client's exact measurement, with specifically selected fabrics, techniques adapted to their body, and non-replicable result. In luxury tourism, "bespoke" should have the same meaning: itinerary designed for a specific traveller, with experiences selected by their profile, techniques adapted to their preferences, and unique result. This guide describes how Kada Travel designs a bespoke Peru trip, in nine concrete stages.
Stage 1: The initial conversation
The process begins with a 60-90 minute video conversation with the traveller. It is not a sales interview —it is mutual exploration. The questions are not about destinations but about the traveller: what they read before the trip, what books they remember, what type of hotel they sleep best in, what food surprises them, what trip moments they remember on returning home.
From this conversation, the Kada Travel team derives a profile beyond demographic. The honeymoon couple may prefer intense adventure or absolute isolation; the family with children may value cultural education or free time more; the returning traveller may seek depth or nostalgia.
Stage 2: Specific preference collection
After the conversation, a detailed questionnaire with 40-50 concrete questions is sent: food allergies, physical restrictions, hotel preference (boutique vs chain), guide language, trip pace (5-6 daily activities vs 2-3), discretionary expenses, photography requirements, cultural priorities (archaeology, gastronomy, spirituality, nature).
The questionnaire includes questions that seem minor but matter: does the traveller prefer early breakfast (7 AM) or late (9 AM)? do they prefer walking or taking transport? do they tolerate night cold or need a room with reinforced heating? Answers determine operational decisions the traveller will never see but that change the experience.
Stage 3: Itinerary draft
With the profile and preferences, the team builds a first itinerary draft. This draft is not the final plan —it is proposal for discussion. It includes: days, proposed hotels, specific experiences, transfer times, estimated budget, and notes on why each decision was made.
The draft typically has 8-12 days with balance between cultural activity and rest. It is sent to the traveller with a second conversation scheduled 7-10 days later.
Stage 4: Review and adjustments
The second conversation is review. The traveller comments on the draft: what they like, what they don't, what is missing, what is excess. This stage is critical —bespoke trips fail when the client accepts the draft without discussion. Kada's team makes 5-15 specific adjustments at this stage: changes one hotel for another, adds an experience, removes a day, modifies the pace.
Adjustments can be structural (changing Lima-Cusco-Machu Picchu order, adding the Amazon) or detailed (changing day-3 dinner restaurant, adding pisco-winery visit).
Stage 5: Reservation confirmation
Once the itinerary is approved, the team confirms reservations. This is the invisible part for the traveller but the most laborious: contacts with hotels, restaurants, experience operators, private transport, specialised guides, photographers, paqos. Three to six-month reservations (Central, Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, Nazca overflight, MIL Centro, shamanic paqos) have priority.
At this stage the trip's "operational network" is established: each experience has a responsible local contact, plan B in case of change, and real-time communication system with the Kada team.
Stage 6: Pre-trip briefing
A week before the trip, the traveller is sent the "Pre-trip Briefing": personalised 25-40 page document with detailed itinerary, emergency contacts, specific recommendations (what to bring, what to eat, what to avoid), health and acclimatisation information, recommended music and book lists for each destination.
The briefing is one of the pieces most distinguishing a serious operator. It is invisible work the traveller uses throughout the trip.
Stage 7: Reception and start
The traveller arrives at Lima airport and is met by Kada's personal concierge. Not driver —person from the team who knows the complete itinerary and will be contact throughout the trip. The first minutes are orientation, the first days intensive coordination, and from day 3-4 the team becomes "invisible but available".
Stage 8: In-trip adjustments
Bespoke itineraries admit real-time adjustments. If one morning the traveller does not want the scheduled activity, it is reassigned. If they want to add an unplanned experience, the team handles it. Flexibility is central to the service.
Typical adjustments: day change due to minor illness (altitude sickness), schedule change by preference (wanting to sleep more), activity change by emerging interest (wanting to add weaver visit after visiting market).
Stage 9: Post-trip follow-up
The process ends with post-trip conversation 2-3 weeks after return. The team gathers detailed feedback: which experiences were memorable, what didn't work, what to add for future trips. This feedback is used to improve service for future travellers and to design future trips for the same client.
A bespoke Peru trip is not luxury in the traditional sense. It is not five-star hotel + private driver. It is the integration of a thousand specific decisions for a unique traveller. When done well, the result seems "natural" but is meticulously designed.

What it costs and why
A bespoke two-week Peru trip for a couple typically costs between USD 18,000 and 32,000 per person, by hotels, experiences and personalisation level. The cost reflects:
• Five-star hotels at each destination (Belmond, Sol y Luna, Inkaterra, Hotel B): USD 8,000-15,000.
• Domestic flights in business or private class: USD 1,500-3,500.
• Private transport with dedicated vehicle and driver: USD 1,200-2,000.
• Specialised guides (archaeology, gastronomy, nature, photography): USD 1,000-2,500.
• Premium experiences (private dinners, ceremonies, overflights): USD 4,000-7,000.
• Personal concierge and itinerary design: 15-20% of total.
What is NOT bespoke
Three tourist versions are sold as "bespoke" but are not. First: the "personalised" itinerary that is only choice between three predefined options. Second: the trip with five-star hotels but standard experiences (site visits without specialised guide, dinners at tourist restaurants). Third: the operator who charges premium but subcontracts everything to local operators without curation.
Real bespoke demands operator investment in long-term relationships (with hotels, chefs, guides, paqos), knowledge of real Peru (not just the tourist corridor), and editorial commitment to each individual client.
