PeruRail Expedition
Back to Machu Picchu by Train

The departure point
Functional rather than ornate, the Expedition is the train of arrival — the one that delivers you, unfussily, to the foot of the citadel. Its appeal lies in restraint: alpaca-textured upholstery, large viewing windows framed in pale wood, and a quiet rhythm that lets the Sacred Valley speak for itself. There is no spectacle here, only the slow theatre of cloud forest and river.
What to expect on board
The service is courteous and unobtrusive. A light snack and a hot drink are offered as the train begins to climb, the staff moving through the carriage with the ease of a seasoned crew. It is the option chosen by travellers who would rather spend on the destination than the carriage.
- Climate-controlled cabins with reclining seats and individual reading lights
- Panoramic side windows and skylights for unobstructed views of the Urubamba
- Snack service with regional infusions and locally sourced ingredients
- Departures from Ollantaytambo and Poroy throughout the day
