Few vessels on the Peruvian Amazon have the conviction to go dark. Aqua Nera does — its interiors of polished black surfaces, brushed brass and dense tropical timber draw the eye inward, so that when you look up from a low banquette and out through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the river itself seems to glow against the cabin. We send guests here when they want a journey that feels designed rather than appointed; for us, this is the most declarative interior on the river.

Where it earns its place

The kitchen leans wholly into Amazonian provenance — paiche, palmito, jungle fruits — and the daily skiff programme is structured around the early hours when the canopy is at its loudest. Twenty suites, the most generous on the river, mean every cabin reads as a private apartment. Evenings tend to gather on the sky deck observatory, where the silence belongs entirely to you.
