The Two-Day Inca Trail
The walk for the gesture, not the endurance
Not every traveller has four days, and not every traveller's reason for the Inca Trail is the trail itself. The two-day route — sometimes called Camino Inca Express — exists precisely for the gesture: a single full day of walking that begins at kilometre 104 of the railway line and ends at the Sun Gate, with the terraced ruins of Wiñay Wayna along the way. It is the only short route that still delivers the original arrival, on stone, through Inti Punku, the way the empire intended.
Who we send here
We recommend the two-day Inca Trail to travellers with limited time on the ground, to those whose fitness or altitude tolerance argues against four nights in a tent, and to families with older children for whom a single demanding day is the right balance. The night is spent at a hotel in Aguas Calientes; the second morning is yours for the citadel itself, walked in slowly and with what you have just earned. Permits are still required, and still capped — we reserve them on the same calendar as the Classic.
- One full day of walking from KM104 to Inti Punku, approximately 12 km
- Visit to Wiñay Wayna, one of the trail's finest stone-terrace complexes
- Arrival at Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate, identical to the Classic
- Hotel night in Aguas Calientes — no camping required
